At Friends@NIH, our mission is focused on supporting patients, their rights and their families while they receive treatments at the NIH. But we are passionate about rights and quality of living (and dying) for patients no matter where they are being treated.

We are proud to be one small part of a vast network of healthcare researchers and practitioners at the NIH and at many other institutions around the world that focus on these very crucial issues. The New York Times recently published a very moving and comprehensive post on this very topic, citing in their article many of the thought leaders and scientists driving the patient rights movement.

Check it out – and make sure to look for NIH’s Dr. Lori Wiener, cited in the article about her work on the research that helped shape the “Voicing my Choices” patient planning guide.
